Manager of Steam Systems, Ken Holland, has been in the renewable energy industry for over 40 years.  Ken can help re-structure your business processes, to enable you to save money on your energy costs, and the environment!  Steam Systems can implement a system to burn waste products produced by your business, as well as other Biomass products, converting the waste into an energy source with which to power your business.

Steam Systems can help improve the energy efficiency of all types of industries using renewable energy sources.  Some of the types of industry include:

Timber mills
Agricultural
Nut Farms
Abbatoirs

Meat works
Viticulture
Tea Tree Farms
Councils

Steam Systems can service the following areas:

Melbourne - Sydney - Canberra - Brisbane - Darwin - Perth - Adelaide - Tasmania

What is BIOMASS?

  • Biomass is all plant and animal matter on the Earth’s surface, such as trees, waste products and animal by-products.
  • Biomass can be thought of as storage of solar energy in chemical form.
  • Biomass can be combusted to provide heat then subsequently converted into other forms of energy.
  • Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water from the earth are combined in the photosynthesis process to produce carbohydrates (sugars) that form the building blocks of biomass.
  • The solar energy that drives photosynthesis is stored in the chemical bonds of the structural components of biomass.
  • When biomass is combusted efficiently, stored energy is released, from the chemical bonds.
  • Oxygen from the atmosphere combines with the carbon in the biomass to produce carbon dioxide and water
  • The carbon dioxide is then available to produce new biomass; therefore, biomass is a renewable resource.
  • Estimated biomass production is about eight times the total annual world consumption of energy from all sources. At present, the world population uses only about 7% of the estimated annual production of biomass.

Some sources of Biomass include:

Wood Waste
Bark
Sawdust
Wood Chip
Nut Shells
Tea Tree Mulch
Spent Marc
Grape Marc
Green Waste
…and even Municipal Waste

Biogas
Biogas is a fuel produced through the intermediary stage of anaerobic digestion. Biogas consists mainly (45-90%) biologically produced methane.

Liquid biofuel
Liquid biofuel is usually bioalcohol such as ethanol and biodiesel and virgin vegetable oils.

Solid Biomass
Direct use is usually in the form of combustible solids, either wood, the biogenic portion of municipal solid waste or combustible field crops. Most sorts of biomatter, including dried manure, can be burnt to heat water and drive turbines.

Renewable electrical power is becoming cheaper and convenient enough to place it, in many cases, within the reach of the average consumer, the possibility to value add your waste.

Renewable heat is an application of renewable energy, i.e. the generation of heat from renewable sources. In most cases, contemporary discussion on renewable energy focuses on the generation of electrical, rather than heat energy.

On a annual basis the United Kingdom consumes 350TWh (12) of electric power, and 840 TWh of gas and other fuel for heating.
